Jamie Lafleur

Jamie LaFleur is Rock Cree from Sucker River First Nation and a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. She grew up in Northern Saskatchewan all her life but throughout her Honours in anthropology has lived in countries such as Norway, Thailand, Ukraine, and South Africa focussing her studies on global Indigenous health. She is currently finishing an MSc in epidemiology and community health at the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine where her thesis examines how the historical traumas of tuberculous sanatoria have affected vaccination decision-making among Indigenous peoples during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 2019 she has worked as a research assistant under Dr. Heather Foulds on the Métis “Jigging for Our Health” project and loves being able to engage with Métis culture in a meaningful way. Over the course of her undergraduate degree, she was awarded $94,000 in scholarships including the prestigious High North scholarship from the Arctic University of Norway and currently holds the NEIHR network scholarship at the University of Saskatchewan. On her free time, she is an Ironman triathlete and marathoner.
